To the English Dance Community:

The Cascadia English Dance Weekend is coming soon.  Please follow these simple instructions:

1. Go to your calendar and clear anything from Friday, May 7 to Sunday, May 9.

2. Fill those dates with large letters: CASCADIA

3. Copy this URL,  http://www.paulbestock.com/cascadia.html, (Make sure that the site fills your screen or it may not be very clear.  Rosemary)  enter it in your browser, and go to the Cascadia Website.  Read about Jenny Beer, and our splendid musicians;  then click on the Registration tab.  Print the registration form.

4. Fill out the form, write a check for $80.00, which includes lunch on Saturday, and send it to Karen Shaw, 612 N. 64th St., Seattle, WA  98103

We are sorry for any confusion regarding registration for Cascadia 2010.  The price for this year's Cascadia weekend is $80.  There is no early-bird registration.  (We are sending this reminder because a number of people have submitted the wrong amount, evidently due to old web pages from previous years which are still lurking on the web, probably cached by various search engines.)

Please note: We want you to come and we know that the economic times are difficult.  We work really hard to keep our costs and the registration fee low, but if the fee is too high, please let us know.  We deal!

5. Then relax, knowing you have registered early enough to avoid the dreaded waiting list.

We look forward to dancing with you.

DANCEHALL PLAYERS CD REVIEWS!

It is DELIGHTFUL, just delightful. No other word will do.  I generally try to listen carefully and then give constructive criticism; but that ain’t gonna happen here. I wasn’t halfway through Knole Park before I had to put fingers to keyboard and tell you how I’m feeling. If I could type standing up (or dancing), that’s what I’d be doing. What a great CD you and the band have put together! On behalf of the whole dance scene, thank you.

Bruce Hamilton

* Bruce will be at Dan's Hall on Thursday, April 15, and of course will be the  caller for the Vancouver Ball, April 17.

** snippets of each track on the CD can be heard at The Dancehall Players webpage on cdbaby.com

It's delightful! Thank you so much! Ansa just asked me if it made me feel like dancing. I suggested, on first listen, it makes me feel like devouring a haunch of venison with a dagger and fork, washing it down with flagons of ale, whilst watching other's, more spritely than I, Fandango-ing their hearts out in some green meadow of English daisies. Very inspired. More seriously, it really is fine. I'm sure, with successive listens, many more of the intricacies will become apparent. Pass along my appreciation to the troupe. From one crazy old country picker: Well done!

Cheers,
Bob

Dancehall Players

Note from Keith:

I want to let everybody know that our CD is now available at Gonzales
Pharmacy, at Fairfield & Irving Roads, across from Margaret Jenkins School.

Grant, the proprietor, is very happy to sell them for us. He has a special English canned foods section at the front door, and will place them next to the traditional Spotted Dick puddings! How impressive.

Grant has quite an interesting drug store. He also sells lamps, prints, garden fountains, just to name a few odd items. A drug store and more!! He is also very supportive of local talent.

Dance-out on March 13 is confirmed and will be at
All Saints United Church Hall 287 Pallisier Ave, 7:30-10:30pm.

Beginners' session 7-7:30pm.  $10/$7. Rosemary Lach calling.

Vancouver Ball

Hotel Accomodations
If you are planning to go to the Vancouver ball the Coast Vancouver Airport hotel is just around the corner.
You can access it from the ball website  www.juneharman.com/ecd
The ball committee will be making arrangements for cheaper rates as a group booking.  Just tell them you are attending the Vancouver Ball.   Booking in advance also gets reduced rates.

Workshop on Vancouver ball dances
If there are enough people going to the Van Ball, I am willing to conduct a ball workshop to review some of the dances.   If you are interested, please let me know and I will try to set it up.    rosemarylach@yahoo.ca

First Dance of the New Year at Dan's hall - 7:30 Thursday Jan 14th

Three Wide Men will be performing at the Deep Cove Folk Club this Friday, Jan. 8th

The folk evening is held at St. John's United Church, at 10990 West Saanich Road (off Wain Road). The church does not look like a church. It is an old Air Force barracks that was relocated from the airport a few years ago.

It is a good idea to get there early, by 7:15 at least. The place fills up fast, and there is a 60-person limit, due to fire restrictions.

Hope you can make it. By the way, the 'Three Wide Men' CD is recorded and mixed now, and we are about to get to work on the cover and liner notes. Hopefully, it will be ready by February.
