The Invitation

VECDS callers may request posting of material thought useful for this page. While it will likely become somewhat structured, it is starting as an Omnium Gatherum of sorts.

Music for VECDS callers

Music: "Chunes". When considering inclusion of a dance in one's program it is nice to ensure that our lovely musicians have the music available, both to perform with and as well to practise from prior to our dances. The club holds music published in Barnes I & II as well as The Playford Ball, 103 Early English Country Dances. There is also a list of local copies of notation held by our musicans for dances we often do.

Dance info

Vic ECD Caller / Dance grid 2009.01 [22 kb PDF]

Table of 500 dances with name, set format, key and tempo from Scott & Jenny's English Country Dance list. Locally a different musical key may be used for some dances. Check with the musicans to determine if it has been transcribed.

Will Linden has his own site with archives of theĀ CDNY New York Playford Ball programs. These include dance directions and music notiation including ABC format.

CDSS has books, you may wish to check out the ECD offerings. They also have several on-line libraries of folk and country dance, many hosted at the Univ. of New Hampshire. One ECD oriented one is the The Dancing Master, 1651-1728: An Illustrated Compendium, by Robert M. Keller. It has dance direction entries with coded figures I'm working on decoding.
